The Standard Ibiza is one of the most design-forward luxury hotels on the island, opened in 2022 in the heart of Ibiza Town on Avenida Vara de Rey — the main boulevard steps from the port, the old town, and within direct sight of the historic Ibiza Castle. Reviewed by Steve Michailidis, a London-based luxury travel advisor and Hyatt Privé affiliated agent, this property stands apart from Ibiza’s beach resort strip by offering something altogether more characterful: a culturally rooted town-centre hotel with the Castle Suite’s five balconies commanding some of the most dramatic views on the island, a Jara restaurant that doubles as a local community hub, and a rooftop pool with castle panoramas that justify the address on its own. For travellers seeking a stylish, central Ibiza base that is emphatically not a standard beach hotel, it is the most interesting choice in Ibiza Town.

Ibiza fascinates with its contrasts. You will notice this even before you arrive. On flights from mainland Europe, you will see clubbers, yoga retreat-goers, and families sharing the same cabin. The island welcomes all types of travellers.
Ibiza offers many restaurants, shops, and, most importantly, accommodations. These suit its diverse group of visitors, from party lovers to laid-back beach explorers. You’ll find anything from rustic tapas bars to chic, modern eateries, plus boutique stores and luxury hotels—perfect for those seeking a truly upscale getaway.

The Standard Ibiza: Design Philosophy and What Sets It Apart
“The simple premise behind The Standard is that it is anything but. Founded in 1999, the goals of every Standard are to up the aesthetic stakes and defy convention while attending to every detail, embracing our local communities, providing a welcoming and inclusive environment for our teams, and, of course, delivering a smashing good time for our guests.”

The Standard Ibiza Location: Ibiza Town, the Castle and What’s Nearby
The Standard Ibiza hotel sits in the heart of Ibiza Town. Its prime location places you steps from historic attractions and vibrant nightlife. Each suite offers upscale amenities, and the property’s chic design exudes modern luxury. Guests can stay in the iconic Castle Suite, discover the rooftop pool, and enjoy swift access to the island’s beaches without sacrificing tranquility.
After a tapas dinner, walk down to the port. It is just steps from the hotel. The Standard Ibiza stands on one of the main plazas, technically Avenida Vara de Rey. Shops, restaurants, and bars surround you. Everything is within easy reach. During my visit, a Christmas market added a festive touch. Visitors and locals alike enjoyed the lively atmosphere.

Ibiza pairs naturally with a wider Balearic itinerary — my review of Kimpton Aysla Mallorca covers the best wellness-focused hotel in Mallorca, an easy inter-island flight away.
Arrival at The Standard Ibiza: Check-In and First Impressions
The hotel is a quick 20-minute taxi ride from Ibiza airport. Depending on traffic, you could be enjoying the rooftop pool or exploring Ibiza Town in less than half an hour. Refreshments at reception were a welcome sight after our journey.
The check-in process was swift, and we were escorted to our suite where we received a brief tour of the amenities. Departure was equally efficient, with the hotel kindly storing our luggage while we enjoyed one final walk around Ibiza Town. Upon our return, the receptionist promptly called a taxi for our ride back to the airport. Overall, the arrival and departure processes were very smooth. 10/10.
The Standard Ibiza Castle Suite: Five Balconies and Direct Castle Views
Let me be straightforward: waking up each morning to see a medieval castle from your bed, through a window framed by one of five private balconies, is an experience that redefines what a hotel room can be. The Castle Suite at The Standard Ibiza is not merely a large room with good views. It is a multi-space apartment that happens to occupy one of the finest positions in Ibiza Town, with the old fortress filling every window on the castle-facing side of the building.

The suite has enough space to genuinely lose track of where you left things: a dining room seating eight that we used as a home office and breakfast table, a private bar and entertaining room at the building’s corner with two separate balconies, and a bedroom at the far end with its own walk-in wardrobe, laptop-safe, and an extraordinary bathroom with double vanity, walk-in rain shower, and a bathtub large enough to genuinely use.

One practical note: the hotel operates a closed bar policy, meaning drinks are served from the hotel’s bars and restaurant rather than brought in by guests. Given the quality of what Jara serves and the $100 hotel credit available through Hyatt Privé, this is unlikely to cause any inconvenience in practice.

The Standard Ibiza Restaurants: Jara, Breakfast and Rooftop
The Jara restaurant on the ground floor serves breakfast for hotel guests and is also open to non-guests for coffee, food, and drinks throughout the day. The cuisine is fresh with Mexican influences, and the vibe is trendy yet relaxed. This area also hosts regular events; Wednesday Bingo night is particularly popular among locals and hotel guests. Don’t miss it!

The Standard Ibiza Pool, Gym and Facilities
The gym in the basement features the usual cardio equipment one would expect from a hotel of this caliber, along with free weights and resistance machines. The photo below makes it look very red, but it doesn’t feel that way in real life. Fresh towels and bottled water are available for guests. During the warmer months, the rooftop pool and bar area provide a perfect spot to enjoy cool refreshments and a bite to eat while soaking in the fresh air and views of the castle and Ibiza Town.

A Few Things Worth Knowing Before You Book
The hotel opened in 2022 and was reviewed in early 2024. Some surfaces in the public areas were beginning to show the early signs of heavy-season wear, which is not unusual for a design-led property in a high-traffic island destination. The room quality remained excellent. Worth bearing in mind if you’re considering the lower room categories — the Castle Suite and suites on the castle-facing side are the rooms where The Standard Ibiza is at its unambiguous best.
How to Book The Standard Ibiza With Hyatt Privé Perks
The Standard Ibiza hotel, opened in 2022, is a member of the Hyatt Privé program. This exclusive affiliation grants special perks and upgrades to guests. Its central location in Ibiza Town makes it an ideal choice for luxury travelers seeking both convenience and style.

- $100 hotel credit (per room per stay) that can be used towards food & drink
- Room upgrade on arrival (subject to forecasted occupancy)
- Breakfast for Two
- Welcome Amenity
- Early check-in (subject to availability)
Hyatt Privé is the same programme through which I book Andaz Singapore and Alila Ubud in Bali — two of my most-booked properties. The perks apply consistently across the portfolio.
Frequently Asked Questions about The Standard Ibiza
Q: Is The Standard Ibiza a luxury hotel? A: Yes — The Standard Ibiza is a five-star lifestyle hotel opened in 2022, affiliated with the Hyatt portfolio and offering Hyatt Privé perks when booked through a qualifying travel advisor. It positions itself as design-led rather than traditionally grand, with a strong emphasis on cultural connection to Ibiza Town, art installations, and a restaurant that genuinely functions as a local community hub. It is the most characterful luxury hotel in Ibiza Town.
Q: Is The Standard Ibiza good for a beach holiday? A: It depends entirely on what you want from Ibiza. The Standard is an Ibiza Town hotel, not a beach resort — there is no private beach, and the nearest beaches require a short taxi or bus ride. For travellers who want to be immersed in Ibiza Town’s old town, port, restaurants, and nightlife with a stylish and comfortable base, it is exceptional. For those whose priority is direct beach access and a poolside-to-sea experience, a different property would be more appropriate. Steve is happy to advise on which suits your travel style.
Q: What is the Castle Suite at The Standard Ibiza? A: The Castle Suite is the hotel’s flagship accommodation, occupying a prime position with five private balconies offering direct views of the Ibiza Castle. The suite includes a dining room seating eight, a private bar and entertaining room, a king bedroom with walk-in wardrobe, and a large bathroom with double vanity, walk-in rain shower and separate bathtub. It is one of the most distinctive suites in the Balearic Islands — the castle view from the bed at sunrise is genuinely extraordinary.
Q: What is Jara restaurant at The Standard Ibiza? A: Jara is the hotel’s ground-floor restaurant, serving breakfast for hotel guests and open to the public for coffee, food and drinks throughout the day. The cuisine has fresh Mexican influences in a relaxed, trendy setting. Wednesday Bingo Night has become a genuine community event, popular with both locals and guests. It is one of the few hotel restaurants in Ibiza that functions as a local social hub rather than purely a guest amenity — worth knowing when planning evening dining.
Q: What perks do you get booking The Standard Ibiza through a Hyatt Privé advisor? A: Booking through Steve Michailidis as a Hyatt Privé affiliated travel advisor includes a $100 USD hotel credit per stay applicable to food and drinks, complimentary daily breakfast for two, a room upgrade subject to forecasted occupancy, a welcome amenity, and early check-in subject to availability. There are no booking fees.
Q: Is The Standard Ibiza good for an off-season visit? A: Yes — the hotel’s central Ibiza Town location makes it well-suited to visits outside the main summer season. The rooftop pool is closed in winter, but the old town, port, Christmas market, and year-round restaurants and bars make Ibiza Town genuinely enjoyable in the quieter months. Steve visited during the Christmas period and found the festive market on the plaza directly outside the hotel a particular highlight.
Q: What are the views like at The Standard Ibiza? A: The castle-facing rooms and suites offer direct views of Ibiza Castle — one of the most dramatically sited medieval fortresses in the Mediterranean. The rooftop pool area provides panoramic views across Ibiza Town. Room category and floor significantly affect the view experience; Steve can advise on the best specific room requests when booking.
Is The Standard Ibiza Worth It?
The Standard Ibiza offers modern luxury, spectacular castle views, and a genuinely distinct personality — ideal for travellers seeking a vibrant yet comfortable Ibiza experience that has nothing to do with beach clubs and everything to do with the island’s more characterful, architectural side.
What stays with me is the specificity of the Castle Suite. Five balconies. A medieval castle filling the view from your bed. A dining table for eight that we used for morning coffee and afternoon work and evening drinks simultaneously. It is the kind of space that makes you restructure your entire day around simply being in it.
The location is equally precise in what it offers and what it doesn’t. If you want to walk to dinner, stumble upon a local bar, hear the port at night, and wake up to the castle lit against the morning sky — this is your hotel. If you need a sun lounger that leads directly to the sea, somewhere else serves you better. Steve is happy to help you decide which version of Ibiza is right for your trip.
Booking through me as a Hyatt Privé advisor means the $100 hotel credit, breakfast and upgrade are confirmed before you arrive, at no extra cost and no booking fee.
