Last spring, I went on an incredible journey across Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, and Malaysia, experiencing several amazing hotels along the way. But I have to tell you, one truly stood out as the finest: The Sukhothai Bangkok. This isn’t just a hotel; it’s a calm, luxurious oasis that holds 2 Michelin Keys and is a proud member of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World. After spending three unforgettable nights here, I can confidently say it’s the perfect base for anyone looking to explore Bangkok in style.
I also reviewed The Alila Ubud in Bali and Cap Karoso in Sumba on the same journey — between them they cover three very different faces of South East Asian luxury.

The Sukhothai Bangkok: Location, Arrival and First Impressions
Our seamless experience began with a pre-arranged airport meet-and-greet. We were whisked away in a comfortable Mercedes E-Class, complete with chilled water – very refreshing after a hot flight and going through airport formalities – and Wi-Fi, arriving at the hotel in about 45 minutes (allowing for Bangkok’s famous traffic). We then enjoyed the luxury of in-room check-in (and the hotel’s refreshing Tom Yum mocktail containing coconut juice, as well as sweet and sour spices and herbs), where they also efficiently confirmed our return airport transfer, the perks included in our rate, restaurant opening times, and they offered to make reservations for us at the spa. It’s these thoughtful touches that make all the difference.

The hotel’s location is excellent for exploring. It’s close to One Bangkok, an exciting new ‘city within a city’ concept featuring a shopping mall and other venues. Other notable luxury hotels like Banyan Tree Bangkok, The Ritz-Carlton Bangkok (a recent opening that I had the opportunity to visit during my stay), and Andaz Bangkok are also within easy walking distance.
You’re also just a short walk from Lumpini Park, a green oasis perfect for a stroll – and yes, keep an eye out for the large lizards shown all over social media! Public transport is easily accessible, with metro stops nearby, and for those interested, the vibrant gay neighbourhood is also within walking distance.

The Sukhothai Bangkok Rooms: Club Rooms, Suites and the Lounge
Our Club Room was incredibly comfortable and beautifully-designed classic luxury, offering a true haven after a day of exploring Bangkok. We enjoyed a spacious king-size bed, a full-size desk perfect for catching up on emails, and a cozy sofa with a coffee table. The room was equipped with a TV and surround sound system, creating a relaxing atmosphere. Of course, no 5* hotel room would be complete without tea and coffee making facilities.

The bathroom was a luxurious retreat in itself, featuring a separate bathtub and rain shower, along with two vanities – making getting ready a breeze. Bathroom toiletries are by local Thai brand PAÑPURI and Philosykos by Diptyque. We also appreciated the convenient walk-in wardrobe with a laptop-size safe for valuables.
Being a Club Room guest also granted us access to the exclusive Club Lounge. Here, we enjoyed delicious afternoon tea and delightful evening cocktails. While the main restaurant offers a wider breakfast variety, the Club Lounge’s intimate setting for breakfast was also a lovely option.

The Sukhothai Bangkok Restaurants, Spa and Facilities
The Sukhothai Bangkok doesn’t just offer great rooms; its facilities are equally impressive. We made full use of the gym, which boasts extensive equipment, along with a dry sauna, steam room, and jacuzzi – perfect for unwinding. The area was meticulously cleaned, with fresh towels regularly replenished outside the showers. And for ultimate relaxation, the hotel boasts an incredible new spa that was recently refinished.
A note on the perks. When you book The Sukhothai Bangkok through me, your stay includes a complimentary 60-minute massage per person — that’s two full spa treatments included at no extra cost, alongside daily breakfast for two, a room upgrade, and one of the most generous check-in/check-out windows I’ve seen: 12pm arrival and 4pm departure. Breakfast was a delight, served on beautiful William Edwards china, making each morning feel special. The staff’s personalised service truly impressed, like being greeted by name – it showed they truly knew their guests! Those who know me will also be aware of my passion for croissants as it allows me to compare hotel breakfasts around the world. With that in mind, you simply must try the chocolate croissant pudding at breakfast – it’s divine.

We enjoyed exquisite dinners at both of the hotel’s restaurants. La Scala, the Italian restaurant, treated us to complimentary Prosecco, and the staff were exceptionally well-trained, making for a superb dining experience. The Thai restaurant, Celadon, offered truly delicious authentic cuisine. We were pleasantly surprised to experience a traditional Thai dance performance on one of the evenings, adding to the cultural immersion.

Service at The Sukhothai Bangkok: What Sets It Apart
The level of personalized service at The Sukhothai Bangkok was truly astounding. I was particularly impressed when a staff member in the Club Lounge mentioned, “I heard you booked dinner for 9 PM at Celadon” – just 5 mins after making the reservation in person in a different building! It showed they truly knew their guests and paid attention to every detail.
Housekeeping was incredibly detailed, ensuring our room was always pristine. Poolside service was excellent, with staff regularly refreshing and topping up our glasses of ice water. Our check-out was quick and effortless. The moment we completed the process, the hotel’s Mercedes was already waiting for us, ensuring a swift departure. This consistent, attentive service is what sets The Sukhothai Bangkok apart.

FAQ
Q: Is The Sukhothai Bangkok the best luxury hotel in the city? A: It is consistently among the top-ranked independent luxury hotels in Bangkok, distinguished by 2 Michelin Keys and Small Luxury Hotels of the World membership. Where it genuinely excels over larger five-star competitors is in the depth of personal service — the hotel operates at a scale where staff know guests by name within hours of arrival, and the serene garden setting offers a calm that is rare in a city as energetic as Bangkok.
For context on the hotel programmes I work with and what Fora Reserve includes, here’s how it works.
Q: Where is The Sukhothai Bangkok located? A: The hotel sits in the Silom district of Bangkok, within walking distance of Lumpini Park, One Bangkok (the city’s major new mixed-use development), and several other leading luxury hotels including The Ritz-Carlton Bangkok and Andaz Bangkok. Metro connections make wider city exploration straightforward.
Q: What are the restaurants like at The Sukhothai Bangkok? A: The hotel has two outstanding restaurants. Celadon serves authentic Thai cuisine in an elegant setting, with occasional traditional dance performances adding a cultural dimension to dinner. La Scala is the Italian option, and notably generous — complimentary Prosecco on arrival sets the tone for an exceptional evening. Both are worth reserving in advance, particularly Celadon.
Q: What is the Club Room and Club Lounge at The Sukhothai Bangkok? A: Club Rooms offer access to the private Club Lounge, which serves afternoon tea and evening cocktails daily, and provides an intimate breakfast alternative to the main restaurant. The lounge is particularly well-suited to couples who prefer a quieter, more personal morning experience. Club Balcony Rooms, Club Suites, and The Sukhothai Suite are available for those seeking additional space.
Q: What perks do you get booking The Sukhothai Bangkok through a travel advisor? A: Booking through Steve Michailidis via Fora Reserve includes daily buffet breakfast for two, a complimentary 60-minute massage per person per stay (subject to a minimum two-night stay), a room upgrade to the next category subject to availability, 12pm early check-in, 4pm late check-out, and complimentary Wi-Fi throughout. There are no booking fees.
Q: Is The Sukhothai Bangkok good for a honeymoon? A: It is one of the strongest honeymoon hotels in Bangkok. The combination of the spa (with the complimentary massage perk making it particularly accessible), intimate candlelit dining at Celadon, the serene garden setting, and a level of personal service that feels genuinely attentive rather than corporate makes it an exceptional choice for couples. Steve books a significant number of honeymoons across South East Asia and The Sukhothai Bangkok ranks among his most-recommended properties in the region.
Is The Sukhothai Bangkok Worth It?
Of all the hotels I stayed in across Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, and Malaysia on that spring journey, The Sukhothai Bangkok was the one I found hardest to leave.
What separates it from Bangkok’s other exceptional luxury hotels isn’t any single feature — it’s the intelligence of the service. The moment a Club Lounge team member mentioned my dinner reservation at Celadon five minutes after I’d made it in a different building, I understood what this hotel is actually doing. They’re not providing service; they’re anticipating a guest’s entire experience and managing it invisibly.
The 2 Michelin Keys are deserved. The garden setting, the lily ponds, the way the city noise simply disappears once you’re inside — it’s a genuine oasis in a way most “oasis” hotels aren’t.
For first-time Bangkok visitors, it provides a beautifully managed, deeply comfortable base in a city that can otherwise be overwhelming. For returning visitors, it offers the kind of depth — Celadon’s cultural evenings, the newly refinished spa, the Club Lounge ritual — that justifies coming back specifically to stay here again.
Booking through me adds a 60-minute massage per person at no extra cost, alongside breakfast, an upgrade, and the most generous check-in and check-out window I’ve come across. There are no fees. Get in touch and I’ll take care of the rest.
